Diablo II: Lord of Destruction for up to four players on one screen — one sofa, one hero each.
Couch co-op for Diablo II, built on D2Decomp, an open reimplementation of the engine: one shared camera, one controller and one hero per player, and personal inventories that never pause the game. Windows today; Linux and the Steam Deck follow.
You need: your own Diablo II: Lord of Destruction data
From the project's release notes. Games and the launcher show these after every update.

First couch co-op preview. A second, third and fourth player join a Diablo II: Lord of Destruction game with a controller and their own saved hero, on one shared screen. This is a prototype for trying it out on the sofa, not a finished release.
You need your own Diablo II + Lord of Destruction (classic, not Resurrected). Nothing from Blizzard is included.
diablo2-couch-x86_64.flatpak (ARM64: diablo2-couch-aarch64.flatpak). In Desktop Mode: flatpak install --user --bundle ./diablo2-couch-x86_64.flatpak, then start "Diablo 2 Couch" from the menu. For Game Mode, add it to Steam as a non-Steam game (Desktop Mode, Steam → Add a Game).d2d-0.0.1-Windows-AMD64.zip, unzip and run d2d-launcher.exe.d2d-0.0.1-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz only runs on very new distributions (glibc 2.43); use the Flatpak otherwise. d2d-0.0.1-Darwin-arm64.dmg is built but untested. The launcher finds your Diablo II installation (or lets you pick its folder) and starts the game.
Start a game as usual with mouse and keyboard: that hero is player 1. Then press a button on a controller: pick one of your other saved characters with the d-pad and A, and that hero appears next to player 1. Up to three controllers can join. In Game Mode on a Steam Deck the Deck's own controls play player 1 (the right trackpad is the mouse for menus) and further controllers join; pad_player1 = 1 / 0 in d2d.cfg sets that anywhere.
| Controller | | |---|---| | Left stick | walk | | A | attack the nearest monster (hold to keep at it), or pick up / open / use what is next to you | | X | right skill at the nearest monster | | Y · LB / RB | next left skill · previous / next right skill | | D-pad | drink from belt column 1–4 | | B | run / walk | | A when dead | get up again, next to the party | | Back (hold 2 s) | leave the game, saved |
One camera follows the whole party and nobody can walk off the screen. Player 1 leads: through a waypoint, portal, cave entrance or into the next area, everyone comes along. The game no longer pauses under the Esc menu while guests play. Guests are saved when player 1 saves and leaves.
Engine: D2Decomp main as of af67c23 (Acts I–III). This is a modified version of D2Decomp by Bret Curtis and contributors, GPL-3.0-or-later.
