Funny Furries 0.4.0 — online through Warpzone (test release) preview

2026-10-16 · on GitHub

Online test release: arena 1 for two to four players, now online through Warpzone, with a relay and ranked matches.

New in 0.4.0

  • Online play goes through Warpzone (https://github.com/jarvis-jhk/warpzone), the shared online service of these games. The first time you play online the game asks for a name (3-16 letters, digits, _ or -); it is shared with every Warpzone game on the computer.
  • Host: press H (or Back on a controller) in the player menu. The screen shows a six-letter room code (already copied to the clipboard). Send it to the others; they press J, type or paste it and press Enter (Steam+X opens the on-screen keyboard on the Deck). Several players per computer, up to four in total, free for all or 2 vs 2.
  • Relay: when two home routers cannot reach each other directly (carrier-grade NAT, strict firewalls), Warpzone relays the encrypted traffic. The lobby and the top right of the screen show each player's round trip and whether the connection is direct or relayed.
  • Ranked: press R (or RB) and pick 1 vs 1, free for all (four players) or 2 vs 2. One player per device; first to three round wins. Every game reports the placements and the final game state; the server rates the match when they agree.
  • The Warpzone launcher and website can start the game straight into a room (--warpzone-join / --warpzone-host).
  • Without a connection to the Warpzone server, H and J fall back to the game's own join codes from 0.3.0.
  • Fixed: a guest waiting in an online lobby for more than five seconds was dropped by the host.

Everyone online needs version 0.4.0 and their own imported original copy (the same full version). Install as before. Windows: extract the ZIP, run Play-Funny-Furries.exe. Linux/Steam Deck: extract the tar.gz, run play.sh (on Deck: import in Desktop Mode, run install.sh, add as a non-Steam game). Your existing import is reused. No original game data is included.

Automated checks: real game processes against the released Warpzone server - a 2 vs 2 with two players per computer on a lossy line, once direct and once with every direct packet dropped so the relay carries it, and all three ranked queues until the server rated them with matching hashes; the same on the real imported arena; Linux and Windows producing identical simulations. Not yet tested: two different home networks, and the public Warpzone server with this game. Please try it and report problems.

Unexpected faults send only version, OS class and fault category to a public ntfy relay (deduplicated GitHub issue). Set FF_NO_REPORT=1 to opt out.

Funny Furries 0.3.0 — online (test release) preview

2026-10-16 · on GitHub

Online test release: arena 1 for two to four players, now also over the internet with rollback netcode.

New in 0.3.0

  • Online play. In the player menu, the players at one computer join with A as usual, then press H (or Back on a controller) to host. The screen shows a join code (already copied to the clipboard); send it to the others. They press J, paste or type the code and press Enter. Several players per computer work too (up to four in total), free for all or 2 vs 2.
  • Rollback netcode: the game predicts the other players and corrects itself when their real input arrives, so short network hiccups do not stop play. Two frames of input delay. "WAITING FOR NETWORK" shows when nothing has arrived for a while; "OUT OF SYNC" would mean a bug (please report).
  • Getting through home routers: the joining game tells the host its address through the public ntfy.sh service under a topic only the code can name; the host then sends first. On the same home network the address shown under the code (e.g. 192.168.1.20:27590) works as well. When both sides are behind carrier-grade NAT (some mobile/cable connections) this fails; the host can then forward UDP port 27590. There is no relay server yet. Allow the Windows firewall prompt when hosting.
  • Command line: --host / --join CODE with --local 1-3.

Everyone online needs version 0.3.0 and their own imported original copy (the same full version). Install as before. Windows: extract the ZIP, run Play-Funny-Furries.exe. Linux/Steam Deck: extract the tar.gz, run play.sh (on Deck: import in Desktop Mode, run install.sh, add as a non-Steam game; Steam+X opens the on-screen keyboard for the code). Your existing import is reused. No original game data is included.

Automated checks: an in-memory network of 2-4 machines with up to 40 % packet loss and jitter, real game processes over UDP with simulated loss and delay (2v2 with two players per computer), the real imported arena online, joining by a real public code, Linux and Windows producing identical simulations. Not yet tested: two different home networks and real routers. Please try it and report problems.

Unexpected faults send only version, OS class and fault category to a public ntfy relay (deduplicated GitHub issue). Set FF_NO_REPORT=1 to opt out.

Funny Furries 0.2.0 — four players (test release) preview

2026-10-16 · on GitHub

Four-player test release: arena 1 for two to four players on one screen, free for all or 2 vs 2.

New in 0.2.0

  • Player menu at start: each player presses A (or their keyboard jump key) to join, B to leave; Y switches free for all / 2 vs 2; Start or Enter begins.
  • Up to four seats: BLUE, RED, GREEN, YELLOW. Pads take seats in connection order; seats 1 and 2 also have keyboards. On the Steam Deck the built-in controls are seat 1.
  • 2 vs 2: blue+green against red+yellow. Teammates' fists and shots don't hurt each other; explosions hurt everyone. Rockets home on the nearest opponent.
  • A furry that loses its three lives stays out until the round ends; the last furry or team standing wins.
  • Green and yellow furries are made from your own blue/red furry art at load time; nothing recoloured is shipped.
  • Four-field HUD. Back/Escape returns to the menu. Two-player play is unchanged.

Install as before. Windows: extract the ZIP, run Play-Funny-Furries.exe. Linux/Steam Deck: extract the tar.gz, run play.sh (on Deck: import in Desktop Mode, run install.sh, add as a non-Steam game). At first start select your own full-version funnyfurries.zip or FF2xmas.cca; your existing 0.1.0 import is reused. No original game data is included.

Automated checks: native Linux/Windows CI with deterministic four-player matches, four SDL virtual pads (join order, unplug/replace, a 2 vs 2 match from pad input), packaged renderer smoke; the Linux package imported a real full copy and ran 10000-tick 2-player and 4-player 2 vs 2 matches. Physical three/four-pad play and Deck are open: please play it and report problems.

Unexpected faults send only version, OS class and fault category to a public ntfy relay (deduplicated GitHub issue). Set FF_NO_REPORT=1 to opt out.
